MyCoverDoctor was founded in 2015 to help hospitals find the urgent coverage they need for doctors. Nationwide there is estimated to soon be a shortage of almost 50,000 physicians, leading to big gaps in healthcare staffing across all 50 states. Traditionally, the way to fill urgent and often temporary need has been to go through expensive locum agencies. MyCoverDoctor exists to connect hospitals and doctors without the need for the expensive middleman and agency fees.

At MyCoverDoctor, we focus on the areas of biggest demand including hospital physicians (hospitalists), emergency room physicians, urgent care physicians and primary care physicians. Most of our doctors have completed an internal medicine residency and our highest demand is for hospitalists. Our goal at MyCoverDoctor is to produce a win-win solution for both doctors and hospitals. Doctors find great local moonlighting opportunities and hospitals find great local doctors.

Any physician who is available to work on a temporary basis in their area. This could be on certain days during the week, weekends, evenings or nights. You could be a physician with your own office or a physician doing a fellowship. You could be a physician just returning from maternity leave or a physician who simply just wants to do moonlighting in your spare time. Either way, it’s free for you to register and your information is completely confidential. When you are contacted by a local hospital, YOU can negotiate your rate directly with the hospital. If you decide to proceed with the opportunity, the hospital can start work credentialing you. To get started, fill out our form under "Moonlighting register" above.

A hospital or clinic has an urgent need for coverage over the upcoming months. Getting doctors to cover these shifts can be very haphazard and a huge time and stress. A locum company will often be contacted and will charge high fees. Instead, why not have direct access to a pool of nearby doctors that have availability to cover those shifts? If you are a doctor, registering on the site is free. All your information is completely confidential. You simply tell us your geographic area, specialty and availability. You don’t have to provide your CV (unless you want to) until you are contacted by the hospital. You can also specify if there are certain hospitals you don’t wish to be contacted by.
If you are a hospital, clinic or physician group—you can also contact us to tell us about your needs. We will help you find great candidates.
We operate much like a matching service. If a hospital decides that a doctor is a good fit for them and compensation and availability are agreed, other processes such as hospital credentialing can proceed from there. Often, emergency credentialing can be done when there’s an urgent need. The physician can then have an ongoing relationship with the hospital lasting months or years.
We operate only as a "matching service". We do not credential our doctors or offer malpractice insurance. It is up to the hospital to vet the candidate and decide if they are a suitable match. The rate of pay is agreed upon directly between the hospital and doctor. We were founded by physicians who have been through the recruitment process and understand its intricacies and challenges. Our mission is to match great doctors with great opportunities—and we do so at a fraction of the cost of a regular agency.
This is up to the hospital and doctor to negotiate. Many doctors who do per diem or moonlighting work carry their own malpractice insurance and even if you don’t, hospitals that have urgent need will often offer it as part of their contract.
At MyCoverDoctor, we are all about long-term relationships. Many doctors start with per diem moonlighting work and then move on to full-time work. It’s up to the doctor and hospital to decide if there’s potential for this opportunity. Unlike other companies, we are not about the "one-time sale". We always want to stay in touch with all the physicians we’ve successfully placed, and if there are any problems, we want to hear about them. Similarly, with hospitals and physician groups, we want to form ongoing relationships and help you find only the best physicians.
